A discussion and support for bereaved parents

Pittsburgh author Joann Cantrell opens a discussion and draws awareness for Infant Loss Awareness Month through her book, Carried Within Me - Echoes of Infant Loss, honoring lives lost to miscarriage, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, stillbirth, or the death of a newborn.

This book, published by Lighthouse Point Press (Pittsburgh), features tender reflections of parents who courageously share their poignant experiences with the intent to help others, including those who never had an opportunity to remember their infants. Each story offers comfort to bereaved families with an honest look into unique and often misunderstood grief and the gift of discovering that they are not alone.

About the author: Human interest writer Joann Cantrell is a Pittsburgh native who has worked for newspapers and magazines and as an award-winning freelancer. She has authored three books for Arcadia Publishing: Pittsburgh's Orphans and Orphanages, Legendary Locals of Pittsburgh, and Lawrenceville, all part of the Images of America series. As a bereaved mother who lost infant twin sons, Cantrell has gained an empathetic and genuine interest in hearing the narratives of other parents who suffered such a loss. Her dedicated work to writing, sharing, and preserving the stories to honor these infants is in the book Carried Within Me - Echoes of Infant Loss.
