Listen, Reflect, Connect
An active listening approach to parenting.

As parents, grandparents, and caregivers, we want to help our children feel better quickly when they are in distress, but oftentimes, they just want us to listen. Putting feelings into words is a self-regulating strategy that can de-escalate strong emotions, build emotional literacy, and promote problem-solving and self-esteem. During this program, we will utilize various resources and talk about the book, “What I Really Want to Hear.” We will explore typical childhood situations and discuss how to respond with active listening. This approach helps kids work through challenging situations, while helping to build emotional literacy and self-esteem.

Brenda Levin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has worked as a school-based and outpatient therapist for over 20 years. Brenda is also a former parent educator for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Parents and caregivers can join us at the library or from home via Zoom for this presentation. Register to reserve your seat or receive the Zoom link.
